Privacy
KDL has updated its Privacy Policy to reflect changes to data protection law.
KDL respects and holds as confidential, any personal data you share with us. KDL never shares data with a third party and only receives data about you that you share – we do not, and have never, purchased data from other organisations.
KDL (we) have an 'opt-in' policy – that is we only store contact details about an individual if the individual has shared them with us. From May 2018, in line with new regulations, we will only store this information with the individual's express permission.
How do we collect information?
We collect information in the following ways:
-
When you give it to us DIRECTLY
You may give us your information in order to sign up for one of our events, share your story, make a donation or sponsor a fundraiser, purchase from our shop or make contact with us for any other reason.
-
When you give it to us INDIRECTLY
Your information may be shared with us by a linked organisation. The linked organisation will ask if you consent to your information being shared. If you tick 'yes', then they will contact us.
These independent third parties will only contact and share your details with us when you have indicated that you wish to contact KDL and have given your consent.
We recommend you check the Privacy Policy of an organisation when you provide our information to understand fully how they will process your data.
We may also see your details when you contact us via social media
Depending on your settings or the privacy policies for social media and messaging services like Facebook, WhatsApp or Twitter, you might give us permission to access information from those accounts or services.
Our website
Like most websites, we use "cookies" to help us make our site – and the way you use it – better. Cookies mean that a website will remember you. They're small text files that sites transfer to your computer (or phone or tablet). They make interacting with a website faster and easier – for example by automatically filling your name and address in text fields.
In addition, the type of device you're using to access our website or apps and the settings on that device may provide us with information about your device, including what type of device it is, what specific device you have, what operating system you’re using, what your device settings are, and why a crash has happened. Your device manufacturer or operating system provider will have more details about what information your device makes available to us.
We do not receive any contact details in this way, it is anonymous data, and we only use this to help improve our website for all those visiting and using it.
Our 'consent to contact' form has preference questions, so we are certain in what way and about what things are happy to be contacted.
There will always be an 'opt out' option on all our e-communications.
How do we safe-guard your information?
We ensure our IT systems remain updated and protected. Our IT support continually monitors security on the systems we use.
Only employees of KDL have access to confidential data and can only access this using approved systems.
We never sell or share personal details with third parties.
How long do we keep your information?
KDL has specific criteria to determine how long we will retain your information for, which are determined by legal and operational considerations. For instance, if a donation or payment is made to the charity, we are required to keep some personal information for tax or financial and auditing purposes. We also need to keep a record of your interactions with us.
However, data outside of these requirements will only be kept for a maximum of twelve months. Just before the twelve months is up, we will contact you to ask if you are happy for us to continue to hold your contact details and other information you may have shared with us, and if you confirm giving your permission, then we will keep this for a further twelve months. If you do not reply or reply ‘no’, then your information will be deleted from our systems.
Sharing your information with other organisations
KDL will never sell, loan or rent your information to any third party.
Keeping your data up to date
We are committed to making sure you are in control of your data and you are able to opt out from being contacted by KDL at any time.
Annually we will contact you to seek your permission to continue to hold your contact details so that we can contact you from time to time about the work of the charity, news and updates on thrombosis, forth coming events.
We really appreciate it if you let us know if your contact details change
